TOP 25 REMEDIATION PROJECTS
The former landfill at the property during full removal and
remediation. Beyond the landfill, the pit rehabilitation and
remediation of soil impacts within the remainder of the
property can be seen.
THE PROJECT SITE is approximately 80 hectares in size and includes three contiguous former aggregate pits and a former (non-registered) landfill, identified by
the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP) in 1986. The project
involves the assessment and movement of existing fill to designated final placement areas according to detailed materials management and grading plans for
residential redevelopment. Several large-scale Phase One and Two ESAs, ex-situ
remediation programs, and Records of Site Condition have been/are being

completed. A risk assessment is also underway for a small portion of the site.
Remediation has included removal of the formerly landfilled material as
well as the excavation, movement, screening, sorting, picking, environmental
assessment and geotechnical compaction and inspection of over 1.4 million
m3 of on-site soil. Over the past nine years, more than 20,000 soil samples have
been collected and analyzed for applicable contaminants of concern, and more
than 275,000 metric tonnes of impacted soil have been removed.
