For those sites and contractors where the SoilFLO app provides more than
what’s needed, United Soils has set up a ticket system with QR codes that
provides electronic tracking, and meets regulatory requirements without
the need to download an app.
Some loads are selected for QA [Quality Assurance] testing daily. Each
day, trained sta昀昀 collect samples from randomly identi昀椀ed trucks and
send the QA samples to AGAT Laboratories for testing. Terrapex, an
experienced engineering and sciences company providing environmental,
geotechnical, hydrogeology, health & safety related services, also
provides QP [Quali昀椀ed Person] consulting services.
There’s a concerted e昀昀ort to ful昀椀ll environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals in the site operations and o昀昀site. They do more than
receive soils at this site. Over the years, the company has cultivated a
reputation for giving back and supporting the community in a variety
of ways. This includes local sports sponsorships, free wellness activities, outdoor movie nights, music concerts, parties to celebrate a variety
of cultures, charitable fundraisers for local 昀椀rst responders, subsidized
family fun days, and tree planting activities through the Tiny Seedlings
program.
“It’s great to connect with the community and give back in a positive
way, with a focus on education, physical activity, and family fun,” says
Darlene Shaw, responsible for media relations, enthusiastically describing the various community events conducted on site and in the community. “We have strict rules of operation, but at times we can be loud,
dirty, and dusty, so we feel it’s our duty to give back to the community.”
Shaw also deliberately utilizes local retailers and caterers in these
various community events. She grew up in the area so it’s also a point of
personal pride that she’s providing economic returns, environmental
stewardship and supporting social consciousness in Stou昀昀ville.
With regard to the Excess Soils Regulation “we try to facilitate
solutions,” says Adams, “and give our customer advice on how to make
it right.”
How often do they get a red 昀氀ag from QA sample testing? Maybe four or
昀椀ve times per year for the soil loads, according to Adams, and almost
never for the hydrovac. Their advanced screening process ensures
they’re only taking loads from low risk sites; residential and approved
sites versus waste and potentially contaminated soils.
