GRAB A BROWNIE and take some time to celebrate our success as
brown昀椀elders on our long journey to help heal the planet. For 25 years, the
Brownie Awards have brought members of the brown昀椀elds community
together to re昀氀ect on and honour those who have made a noteworthy
contribution to brown昀椀eld policy, processes, projects, and practices that
inspire the way forward. This dose of delicious inspiration is more vital than
chicken soup to help recharge the souls of those who seek to recharge the land.
When I’m at the Brownie Awards ceremony or reviewing the
nominations, I often 昀椀nd myself (in between Todd’s jokes) re昀氀ecting on
foundational principles, bigger pictures, and changes over time. Why do
we do this? How far have we come? Where are we going?
At our core, I believe that brown昀椀elders, whether present at the 昀椀rst
award ceremony or the latest one, are all driven by the same simple
desire to clean up and reuse land for a better purpose.
What inspired us to take action? Perhaps we were stirred by catchy
proverbs like “waste not, want not” or the profound wisdom of “we do
not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
At the heart of our e昀昀orts is a shared belief within the brown昀椀eld
