WHEN IT COMES TO SOILS MANAGEMENT, Canadian jurisdictions
have varying policies, depending on their geographies, resources and
governance models. However, some would argue that they share a few
unfortunate similarities—a lack of consistency and clear rules, and
limited ability for resource recovery.
While we hear a lot about the Ontario regime at our annual Excess Soils
Symposium, we were curious about the impact of new regulations
concerning soils management in B.C. and Alberta.
With the support of the Environmental Services Association of
Alberta (ESAA), we gathered a panel of experienced leaders in the
industry: Edmonton, Alta.-based Scott Purves, the President of ESAA,
is Technical Director of Assessment, Remediation and Reclamation
at Montrose Environmental Group, Inc.; Calgary, Alta.-based Allan
Fogwill is Chief Operating O昀케cer of the Petroleum Technology Alliance
of Canada; Vancouver, B.C.-based David Meikle is Vice President,
Western Region, Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc..
